We are very excited to announce that an excerpt from Gabrielle Bell’s Truth Is Fragmentary is featured in The Best American Comics 2015. Truth Is Fragmentary is a collection of funny, honest, and introspective autobiographical comics that has been praised in Publisher’s Weekly, the Atlantic Wire, and the New Yorker. We are proud to see Gabrielle’s work honored as some of the year’s best!
Several of our other authors were also recognized by The Best American Comics. Sam Alden’s It Never Happened Again, Caitlin Skaalrud’s Houses of the Holy, and Sophie Yanow’s War of Streets and Houses were notable mentions.
All of these titles are available through the Uncivilized Books store. Check them out!
Matt Madden and Jessica Abel, the editors of Best American Comics, have released their annual list of Best American Notable comics of 2012. Among the many fine comics we were thrilled to find some comics from Uncivilized Books:
The short comics-story “Sa Vie” by Gabrielle Bell (now collected in The Voyeurs (now available))
“The Cozy Apocalypse” by Tom Kaczynski (from MOME 21, and will be part of Beta Testing the Apocalypse coming soon from Fantagraphics!)
Trans Utopia by Tom Kaczynski (to be collected as Trans Terra: Towards a Comics Philosophy in February 2o12).
See the whole list here.
New York comics fans are probably already aware of this but, in case they’re not, they should check out this Best American Comics 2011 event with Alison Bechdel, Gabrielle Bell, Kevin Mutch:
Editor Alison Bechdel, creator of Dykes to Watch Out For and author of Fun Home, and guests discuss the latest volume of The Best American Comics 2011, an outstanding collection of the year’s best cutting-edge comic work.
Should be fun! Check it out.
